1. Introduction
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the LexIQ AI-powered legal education platform (the "Platform"), operated by LexIQ Ltd ("LexIQ", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
2. Eligibility
The Platform is intended for law students, trainee solicitors, and legal professionals aged 18 and over. By using the Platform, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
3. Account Registration
To access the Platform's features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration and to keep your account details up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
Accounts are personal to you and must not be shared with others. We enforce concurrent device limits and may suspend accounts where account sharing is detected. See our Fair Use Policy for details.
4. Subscription Plans and Payment
4.1 Free Tier
We offer a free tier with limited access to Platform features. The free tier is subject to daily usage limits as described on our Pricing page.
4.2 Paid Subscriptions
Paid subscription plans (Standard and Premium) provide enhanced access to Platform features. Subscription fees, features, and limits are described on our Pricing page. All prices are stated in British Pounds (GBP) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable.
4.3 Payment Processing
Payments are processed securely by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise Stripe to charge your chosen payment method on a recurring basis. We do not store your full payment card details.
4.4 Cancellation and Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Platform's billing settings. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period. Refunds are provided at our discretion and in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you are within 14 days of purchase and have not substantially used the service, you may request a full refund under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
5. Licence and Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Platform for your personal educational purposes. You may not:
- Sublicense, sell, resell, or commercially exploit the Platform or its content
- Copy, reproduce, or distribute AI-generated content for commercial purposes
- Use the Platform to generate content that is presented as original legal advice to third parties
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Platform
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Platform
- Circumvent usage limits, fair use controls, or security measures
6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
The Platform provides AI-generated educational feedback only. It does not provide legal advice.
All AI-generated content — including essay feedback, quiz explanations, chat responses, SQE practice feedback, and advocacy assessments — is produced by large language models for educational and formative purposes. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. You should:
- Always verify AI-generated content against authoritative legal sources (statutes, case law, textbooks)
- Not rely on AI-generated content as a substitute for qualified legal advice
- Not submit AI-generated content as your own original work without proper attribution and verification
- Exercise independent professional judgement when using the Platform for professional development
LexIQ accepts no liability for any loss, damage, or adverse consequence arising from reliance on AI-generated content.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Platform to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right
- Submit content that is defamatory, obscene, threatening, or otherwise objectionable
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform, other users' accounts, or our systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's operation or infrastructure
- Share your account credentials with others or allow multiple individuals to use a single account
- Use the Platform to facilitate academic misconduct or plagiarism
- Attempt to extract, scrape, or systematically download Platform content or AI model outputs
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or our Fair Use Policy.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Our Intellectual Property
The Platform, including its design, code, branding, and educational content (excluding user-submitted content and AI-generated outputs), is owned by LexIQ Ltd and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
8.2 Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Platform (e.g., essays, practice answers). By submitting content, you grant us a limited licence to process it through our AI systems for the purpose of providing the Platform's services. We do not use your content to train AI models.
8.3 AI-Generated Outputs
AI-generated feedback, explanations, and assessments are provided for your personal educational use. You may use them for your own study and revision. You may not commercially redistribute AI-generated outputs without our written consent.
9. Fair Use
Use of the Platform is subject to our Fair Use Policy, which sets out usage limits and enforcement measures designed to ensure equitable access for all users. We monitor usage patterns and may restrict access where usage significantly exceeds reasonable educational use.
10. Data Protection
We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from security vulnerabilities.
- We exclude all implied warranties, conditions, and representations to the fullest extent permitted by law.
- Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising from or related to these Terms or your use of the Platform shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LexIQ Ltd, its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your use of the Platform, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
13. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at any time if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, our Fair Use Policy, or our Acceptable Use Policy. We will endeavour to provide notice before suspension, except where immediate action is required to protect the Platform or other users.
Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. We will retain your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy retention schedule. You may request export or deletion of your data by contacting [email protected].
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Platform at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
